"I was pleasantly surprised by how good the Japanese food was. There are some things I prefer done differently, like miso soup—I really enjoy it the traditional Japanese way. Nonetheless, the soup was hot and quite satisfying. I finished everything, which means it was very good, even though I just had a red cappuccino and muffin. You should give it a try. Bree Street is famous for its many great restaurants, and I’m sure this is one of them."

"A Japanese food gem in the city center. The tranquil vibe welcomes you in, the servers bring complimentary hot tea and friendly smiles and the food is flavorful and delicious. We went for dinner and was seated without a wait. Saeed was super kind and helpful. We started with the days' special of yellowtail- so fresh, tender and beautiful presentation. Sushi: Rainbow roll- beautiful and tasty but a bit mayo forward for my taste. Reloaded- great flavors and textures. Rock shrimp roll- creative with good flavors and textures. Too large to eat in one bite for me though. Throne roll- great crunch with mild flavor. Dumplings- fried prawn dumplings were the table favorite. Steamed lamb was delicious too. Did not expect to find a great Japanese place here in Cape Town. Glad we did."

"Honestly, I have never eaten Chinese / Japanese food like at Tomo. It is a place where you feel like you are physically transported to the Far East. A warm and welcoming atmosphere with attentive and very kind staff. Chef David is a character who will remain in your memory for his friendliness and for the preparation of delicious authentic dishes with absolutely genuine and fresh ingredients."

"I've been wanting to go to Tomo for some time, and I'm glad to say that the experience blew my already high expectation out of the park. The ambience is perfect, so cosy and warm. The service was incredible with very helpful and approachable staff. The food was incredible, trying the Agedashi Tofu, sushi rolls and the new lamb Ramen. All dishes done perfectly, not trying to be complex, just done the perfect way in the most simplest way possible. An incredibly authentic experience."

"Absolutely fantastic ambiance. The lighting is warm and distributed softly across the restaurant. Light music, plants, comfortable seating and accessories that really create an aesthetically pleasing tone. My sister and I got the sushi; the fish was super fresh and melt-in-your-mouth and the fish-to-rice ratio was spot on (not stingy with the fish). My family got the ramen which was deep in flavour, comforting and came with beautiful little additives alongside. Chicken teriyaki also fantastic. Each dish was served with a beautiful presentation and really lovely dishes and cutlery. The jasmine tea on entrance was also very welcoming and comforting. Absolutely loved this place and will definitely come again. I hope they don’t change a single thing."

"Great experience here after coming from an Asia trip, I’m a huge fan of the Japanese culture and to try some things I haven’t before was interesting. I tried my first mackerel here too! The small plates are affordable and it allows you to order variety, my favourite was the tongue and mackerel. Got a good bang for our buck here and they have lunch specials I love the fish tank display that shows on the outside of the store, we had a knowledgeable older gentleman who just understood the vibe! He also gave good recs, cosy spot for a date night. Oh and Jasmine tea on arrival!!"
